| Heyy, Galox here!! This thread is a Q&A about the life-forms that lived during the Mesozoic era. If you want to, you ask me questions about anything to do with Dinosaurs, and other Pre-historic things. I will NOT use the Internet/Books to find out the answer, so thats the challenge for me Some Ideas: What does _______ name mean? (Example: What does Tyrannosaurus Rex mean?) When did ________ live? (Example: When did Velociraptor live?) Where did ______ live? (Example: Where did Brachiosaurus live?) What did ________ eat? (Example: What did Parasaurolophus eat?) What ate ________. (Example: What ate Ornithomimus) So go ahead, ask me!! DINO OF THE DAY:"Mamenchisaurus" name means: "Mamenchi [river] Lizard" Classification: Animalia Chordata Sauropsida Archosauria Dinosauria Saurischia Sauropodomorpha Description: This large, Late Jurassic sauropod had the longest neck of any animal; a snake-like organ which streched over 12M long. It lived in Asia, and was over 20M long, and weighed anywhere from 20-25 Tonnes.

| fine heres another 1...if 2 dinasours mated that werent exactle the same species but were very close (example a golden retriever dog and a germen shepard) would this result in a new genetic trait that would be benificial or a downside to the species | |

| That sort of event would be unlikely, but say on a remote island, it may of happened. The result would be totally unknown, as it could go either way. Again though, it is very unlikely that that would of happened. There personality can only be guessed at, but may have been similar to Birds and Crocodiles, there closest living relatives. Birds a usually quite fierce, so dinosaurs most likely would have had that trait. | |

| yes however they can also be traced back to whales sharks and other species..so even tho its unlikely it could happen also how do you feel about dinasours bieng cloned and made? do you think its possible? i mean look at jurrasic park XD | |

| Traced BACK to whales? Whales are mammals and evolved during the Neogene...I think TO sucessfully clone anything, you would need a full DNA "Line". During fossilization, DNA is lost, especially for something as long gone as the dinosaurs. So, yeah, cloning Dinosaurs is...Impossible. | |

| Well getting all the DNA required could be possible, if some DNA is eroded during fossilisation, would perhaps another fossil have the DNA that was lost on the first fossil? | |

| Ahh, but the DNA would be wayyy to fragile to do anything with. | |

| Well in that case then couldn't you find many fossils with the same DNA piece, and do that until you had the full chain required to use it? Or it would simply be a matter of getting technology that didn't destroy the DNA as you used it. | |

| The technology IS HERE to do it. But, dinosaurs are just too old. Even mammoths would be a great, great task, and they've only been gone for a few thousand years; never mind 65 Million. | |

| Round 3! You say, time changes DNA, yet that doesn't stop it from being cloneable. It might not look exactly like the original. (Jurassic Park 4 Developers, take note: MUTANT DINOSAURS!!!) But it would still work. | |

| The uncompleted DNA sequence would most likely kill the animal, and the surrogate mother. And, finding DNA in dinosaurs is very almost nearly impossible, since it has changed completely and ,therefore, not DNA anymore. | |

| On another note, you said DNA is to fragile to modify, how come the very computer your typing at has microscopic circuits. Millions of changing pixels every second. If man can make something this complex, isn't is possible to modify something as complex. | |

| DNA is thousands, if not millions times more complex than the most complex of computers. | |

| it is more complex and DNA is in an actualy libing thing rather than electircal stuff (unless u count grox). DNA is a million times more fragile and complex than millions of pixels etc | |

| Well, some of the smaller ones may well of had. Larger animals like T-rex, would have crushed there own ribs if they fell over, clearing dancing was not very important there. | |

| Dinosaurs may well have dreamed like other Animals living today. Dinosaurs may have snored, just like modern animals do from time to time. Dinosaurs like Tyrannosaurus, couldn't run very well. T-rex would have needed 5.8 Tonnes of leg muscle to run; thats around 80% of it's body mass. It would most likely hid in the shadows, waiting for an unsuspecting victim. Dinosaurs like Deinonychus for example: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/1/1f/Deinonychus_BW.jpgWould have been a lot faster, but would still most likely of Ambushed, like todays Big Cats. | |
